Abstract
This essay is primarily concerned with the effect of community on the development and self-understanding of the individual. I argue that across the historical time and space individuals have consistently defined themselves by the communities to which they belong. I also indicate that I lack any such sort of identification or membership. I then identify both the negative and positive implications of my status as an outsider.
